There has been much debate in recent years as to whether or not the undergraduate masters degrees offered by the University of Southampton has been adequate for industry with companies insisting on students obtaining an MSc such as the likes offered by Aberdeen, Imperial and Royal Holloway. However in this years prestigious IBA, an annual hydrocarbon basin and prospect evaluation competition run by the AAPG, our undergraduates came a close second of all European entrants. It has been the second year in a row that the University of Southampton finished in the top three of the competition, going one better this year and finishing above the other British universities. This puts Southampton clearly on the map for petroleum geology and proving the undergraduate masters degrees are an excellent choice for industry!

Some of you may not know this but this year held a great success for the University of Southampton and its undergraduate geology and geophysics masters students.
